Lockheed Martin: Apple iPhone, Keep It At Home

Lockheed Martin has issued a ban on iPhone in it's facilities and is prohibiting employees from using it to store or transfer corporate information. However, they are working with Apple to resolve the security issues:

The Corporate Information Security Office (CISO) has been involved in an active dialogue with Apple, Inc. regarding the iPhone. The iPhone was specifically designed and is being targeted towards the consumer market. To comply with Corporate policies and procedures, employees should know that the iPhone lacks adequate information security controls such as:

-Central policy control

-Encryption of the device contents (8GB drive) -Adequate password controls For Windows Mobile and Black Berry devices, the Corporation does have necessary solutions to manage and secure the data contained on them.

IPhone does not offer these features because the product is consumer focused. Lockheed Martin employees that purchase an iPhone are not permitted to use it to store or transmit Lockheed Martin information. For any questions about the iPhone or other handheld devices, submit a CISO Engagement Model (CEM) request for InfoSec Related CPS or CIPM Quest.
