We've added a couple of pictures to our dissection of a 20GB iPod. The new images show the damage to the display connector from the original dissection as well as additional damage caused during the attempted repair.
We laughed, we cried, we kissed the little bugger goodbye...

Send it to me and I will give it a try. I don't claim to be an expert, but have built a complete stereo amp from components (it was a kit) and am pretty good with soldering small parts. I will do my best...

There just isn't any copper left on the flexible circuit to solder the pins. That was the main reason I got aggressive (and caused even more damage.) At first I didn't notice that the three traces (at top left in the non-blurry picture) were gone.
