New iPod Interface Demo

You can demo the new iPod interface here:

iPod Interface Demo

Lots of new things to take note of, including Genre and Composer support. The question that remains is when will it be available for older models?

Notes:

- Composer is a new tag in iTunes 3

- Game is still just breakout

- Sound Check is the same name as the new feature in iTunes 3 that automatically normalizes song volume, so presumably it does the same thing here

Note that it says games.

We shouldn't have to wait long, Jobs said "we want to take care of Mac users first".

yea, it'll all work for the older ipods... I just called Apple support (Applecare r0x0rs), and they said the firmware will install on older ipods BUT mp4 will NOT WORK AT THIS TIME.

Obviously NONE of the ipods will run mp4 before jaguar is released.... The iTunes w/ mp4 will probably be included in Jaguar.... we'll just have to wait and see if mp4 will work or not.... but it sounds to me it won't work.... :(

get any info on when the new firmware will be available?

so all the stuff like the calender and clock will work on my old ipod? coool! and the remote too, right? I haveta get one. I assume MP4 (AAC) will not work on the old ipods because I think it whould need a different hardware decoder, just like there is a hardware decoder for mp3 in the old ones. And the solid state wheel dont sound too bad neither. Too bad my XtremMac case really messed up my ipod (stratches and even a dent!) or i whould sell it on ebay. uh oh, I think it heard me.

AND we'll have to switch to 10.2 to use iSync and stuff. That sucks, I love apple but Im not fond of osx at all... I just love my 9.2.1 too much :p

according to the apple discussion area, sometime in EARLY august. I'm assuming this is also when apple will begin shipping the new ipods.

I don't think AAC support will take a new hardware part at all, so I'm pretty sure that the old iPods will support AAC at the same time the new ones do. I have a 10GB iPod now, and I'll be getting the 20GB when it's available and eBay-ing my current 10GB.

Sorry, that was a typo...it says "Game"

Craig

I am really dissappointed with Apple. It seems they are really agressively trying to suck money out of the relatively few people who are loyal to them. OS 10.2 is not a new OS, just an update. Imagine the response if MS tried to charge for a new OS for every update, no one would take it.

but on the navigation bar next to the virtual ipod it says games! lets all hope...

what he said ! the 'new os' should be a free update for os x users, just like 10.1 was.

am I the only one who isn't too impressed by the new .mac strategy? sounds and looks too much like .net to me ...

and about mp4 support on the older models, is that really a hardware problem? can't they implement it in some sort of firmware update?

I'm not wild about paying $129 for Jaguar either, but if you analyze it you ARE getting a lot for your money. I don't know about Jobs claim that it includes over 150 new features, but it does include a lot of really cool new stuff (the new Address Book ,the new Mail, iSync, iCal, Rendevous, Inkwell, Sherlock 3, Bluetooth, etc.) that places it beyond a simple OS upgrade. Would I prefer it was free, or $49? Duh. But I'm willing to pay for what it has to offer.
